Showcasing how ‘Ceramics Make It Possible’ with industry event success

The first official celebration of the International Day of Ceramics saw visitors see how ceramics make it possible across a wide of critical sectors, in a dynamic  showcase of the sector’s unique capabilities.

Ceramics UK worked with The AMRICC Centre in Staffordshire to host the UK’s event based on the themes ‘hidden in plain sight’  and ‘critical enabler’, at the flagship facility.

Guests, including MPs  and representatives from the Department for Business and Trade, business groups, universities and industry were given a series of presentations, designed to broaden the view and perception of ceramics in the UK.

Speakers included Rob Flello, CEO of Ceramics UK, Dr Cathryn Hickey, Chief Executive of The AMRICC Centre, and Richard Goodhead, Chief Marketing Officer of Lucideon, as well as Tim Evans of Mantec Technical Ceramics and Greg Astill of Ibstock PLC.

The visit also included a tour of The AMRICC Centre, the UK’s Centre of Excellence for advanced ceramic technologies, which is hosted and managed by Lucideon, and has recently celebrated its first full year of operations at the cutting edge of science and technology.

Rob Flello, CEO of Ceramics UK, said: “Ceramics make it possible, and the day demonstrated their range, versatility and reinforced our message of them being hidden in plain sight.

“The event was a great success and provided a dynamic platform to put the products, components, and processes that are key to modern living at the very front and centre of the conversation.

“We were able to show how ceramics are fundamental to performance technology, and that they make the modern world possible, and make the modern world work.”

Launched by the International Ceramics Federation in 2025, the International Day of Ceramics is a global initiative designed to raise awareness of the essential role ceramics play in everyday life and state-of-the-art innovation, celebrating the creativity, technology, and expertise of the sector while inspiring future generations.

Dr Cathryn Hickey, Chief Executive at the AMRICC Centre, said: “Ceramics matter in shaping the world and moving us into the future.

“The day was a great opportunity to showcase that, and share the developments being made in Staffordshire to put ceramics and advanced ceramics on the national and international stage in a wide range of critical environments.”
