Supporting UK Ceramics: The Campaign to Extend the British Industry Supercharger Scheme
The UK ceramics industry is currently facing a critical turning point. The industry body Ceramics UK has issued an urgent call for public support following the collapse of the historic pottery brand Denby, which officially entered administration on March 31, 2026.
The Crisis at Denby
Despite a widespread "#SaveDenby" campaign and "overwhelming" public engagement, the 217-year-old Derbyshire-based manufacturer was unable to secure the strategic investment needed to continue.
The Parliamentary Petition
Ceramics UK is championing a petition, started by Denby to prevent further collapses within the sector.
The Main Ask: The petition calls on the UK Government to extend the 'British Industry Supercharger' scheme to include ceramic manufacturers. This scheme currently provides energy-intensive industry relief to other sectors to help offset high electricity costs, but ceramics, one of the most energy-reliant industries, is currently excluded.
Current Status: As of late April 2026, the petition has surpassed 64,000 signatures.
10,000 signatures: Triggered a formal Government response (currently awaited).
100,000 signatures: Will trigger a debate in the House of Commons.
Deadline: The petition remains open for signatures until October 17, 2026.
How to Help
Supporters are being urged to "add their voice" to ensure the government addresses the "critical challenges" facing the sector. You can view or sign the petition here: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/764785
